A new AV installation as part of a major church restoration.

A CAV Solutions project at St John the Baptist, Royston, bringing sound, visuals and practical controls into the church environment.

The project

Following the devastating fire in December 2018, the church underwent a major refurbishment. CAV Solutions was commissioned to design and install a new audio-visual system that would complement the restored interior and support modern worship.

Projection with careful building integration

Two winched projection screens use Epson laser projectors, while pillar-mounted displays extend visual coverage to additional seating areas and provide confidence monitoring. Custom pillar brackets were designed to avoid fixings into stonework below the capitals. A Kramer switching and scaling system provides main and preview feeds, with HDMI connections at multiple locations.

Integrated sound and control

JBL Control series speakers and discreet subwoofers work with Dynacord processing and amplification. The system includes fixed and Sennheiser radio microphones, an induction loop and ambient microphones for the loop and streaming feeds. An Allen & Heath QU-PAC offers iPad control and presets, supported by an EnGenius managed network. Equipment is housed in a bespoke lockable console with space for future development.
